Sadly,
too many gynecologists recommend painful Dilation and Curettage (D&C),
exploratory surgeries, or endometrial biopsies as the first option for
diagnosing a patient’s condition. These and other invasive procedures are no
longer the standard of care in gynecology. They are costly, require
anaesthesia, and significant recovery time.
Today
there are non-invasive procedures which are less costly, more accurate,
painless and can be performed in a few minutes right in the office to fully
diagnose the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids, ovarian cysts, thick
uterine bleeding, menorrhagia and more.
These
non-invasive procedures are Sonohysterograms and Transvaginal Ultrasounds.
Dr.
Steven R. Goldstein MD, the Best Obgyn in NYC,
is a pioneer in the field of gynecological ultrasounds. He is highly regarded
as one of the nation’s best gynecologists and a foremost authority on
gynecological ultrasound and imaging. He currently serves as Director of
Gynecologic Ultrasound at New York University Medical Center and President of
the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine among many other roles.
Dr.
Goldstein personally performs all Sonohysterograms and Transvaginal
ultrasounds. While painful endometrial biopsies only sample the area involved,
these transvaginal ultrasounds and Sonohysterograms produce clear images of the
entire area - uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix and so on. These clear
images help Dr. Goldstein properly diagnose the patient and recommend a course
of treatment.
Dr.
Goldstein is the recipient of the 2018 Joseph H. Holmes Clinical Pioneer Award
from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). This is in
recognition of Dr. Goldstein’s distinguished career in ultrasound in medicine,
and making outstanding contributions to the growth and development of medical
ultrasound.
